I thank my sobriety for all good things I have in my life today -- authentic relationships, a healthy mind and body, a thriving business, and a purpose.

In early days I thought I was unworthy of all of these things. I was anxious, sad, lonely, embarrassed, and unsure. Drinking was my main coping mechanism for 11 years and without it I felt like a sensitive alien with see-through skin. I thought I had messed up everything so badly that there would never be redemption. I'm happy I was wrong about all that.

I honestly hardly ever think about drinking and don't consider it an option for any situation in my life. If you are struggling or feeling chained by a substance I am living proof that it doesn't have to stay that way. One hard lesson I've been gifted recently is the reminder that sobriety doesn't prevent pain, trauma, and difficult times. My recovery does, however, give me a baseline for knowing that I can get through it. Because if I could get sober, than anyone can do anything.

Forever grateful for everyone in my life who supports me, celebrates with me, laughs with me, and cries with me. Grateful for the Bigger Life Adventures family and this fabulous retreat I celebrate my re-birth day with every year.

I’ve been thinking about this @anipemachodron quote every day lately since life and karma threw me out of the nest in a big way. I get so attached to comfort and routine and expect these things to continue. When things change and struggles arise I resist and complain and rebel. Working on acceptance and gratitude despite all the shocks and twists and turns. How lucky that I get to practice the strength, bravery, and acceptance I want to show in the world on my yoga mat as well.

A week away, a week off social media is just what’s needed to start feeling the real itch. A week of bearing witness more closely to what is, our current divine reality, rather than escaping, numbing, or scrolling it away.

A week of reading more, staring into space more, tuning in more.

I need these weeks. They always provide fresh inspiration, perspective, and the right amount of discomfort to make me realize how addicted to these tech habits I truly am. If it loses me followers to off for a week every so often, so be it.

I come back for the good things — the honest conversations, the vulnerability, the DMs that lead to actual friendships. But I also come back with an understanding of what these apps do to my brain right at the surface. So let’s all keep reminding each other to take breaks, quit for good, put our phones down more often, or whatever we need to do for real connection and sanity.

To travel through the mountains during monsoon season, especially on foot, is to put yourself at the mercy of Mother Nature. It’s now been over a month on the journey of healing from Zach’s ankle break + both our emotional distress/life adjustments surrounding it. Can’t say thank you enough to everyone who has helped or reached out with encouragement.
We’re headed to Colorado for a change of scenery and more healing in nature. I’ll be practicing what I preach about social media and getting off the apps for at least a week!!!
