This training will provide yoga teachers with an in-depth understanding of the human nervous system and how different types of trauma affect all of us. Learn about PTSD and the difference between “Big T” trauma and “little t” trauma. Analyze cultural, societal, and economic factors contributing to inequity in common yoga spaces and beyond. We’ll then explore the science and evidence behind body-based healing modalities such as yoga. We’ll then explore the science and evidence behind body-based healing modalities such as yoga, including many participatory body, breath, and mindfulness-based micro-practices interspersed throughout the 2-day training. Teachers will first be students and then practice facilitating trauma-informed yoga classes, understand how trauma-informed yoga classes may be different from studio classes, and come away with important skills to apply to teaching yoga in any setting.
This training will include lectures with note taking encouraged, discussion time, example classes, small group work, practice teaching, and a final teaching assessment.
This training is open to yoga teachers and non-yoga teachers who are interested. Learning how to create safe spaces and communicate skillfully with traumatized people are valuable skills that all of us should have. If registered with Yoga Alliance, you’ll receive 16 continuing education hours.

•I learned a lot, got a new mat, drew the Spider Card. Trauma-Informed Teacher Training re-invigorated me as to why I even wanted to be a yoga teacher in the first place. Thank you Carrie Hoffman!

Your training today was fantastic and exactly what we needed. Let me know if you are able to do another one in a few months.
-Juvenile Detention Center Manager after training for their staff
Carrie holds one of the most authentic & safest spaces that I’ve come across in my journey with yoga. Every speech, action & interaction with Carrie is considerate in such a way that you can see she was born to lead others in this position as teacher. She is honest & open in sharing her own journey & personal challenges, there is no “me” or “you” in Carries teaching, it’s always “us”. It’s admirable to see that she learns just as much from her students & takes a genuine interest in them. Aways adapting & fine tuning her role, inspiring others along the way. I’m grateful to have been inspired by Carrie too.
