Why YOU should attend our Joshua Tree Desert Yoga Campout Retreat!

The Joshua Tree desert is an otherworldly landscape which you really have to see to believe! We love hosting retreats here because we get to blend outdoor adventure with mystical meditation and inspired creativity! We can’t wait to reveal what we have planned for this one! This retreat has been designed to enable healing and breaking down of personal barriers. Our goal is to rejuvenate the body, mind, and spirit, leaving you feeling stronger and more connected. We strongly encourage you to use your retreat time as a “digital detox” as well, although you get to decide what that means to you!

What activities can I expect on this Joshua Tree Yoga Retreat?

When you join us for our epic adventure in this desert paradise, get ready to test your limits and challenge yourself in ways you never thought possible. We offer a rock climbing excursion that is fun, safe, and accessible for people of all abilities and skill levels. Joshua Tree is world renowned for it’s granite cliffs and boulders, and has long been a destination for climbers from all over the world. Our experienced rock climbing guide will lead us in learning how to climb safely, setting up a number of varied climbing routes that are sure to test you physically and mentally in a fun, supportive, and safe environment. Rock climbing is so much more than just a sport/activity, but can also be understood as a form of moving meditation that requires mindfulness and being fully present, which asks us to examine our inner limitations and fears. Mindfulness, full body awareness and being present, that’s yoga!!! That’s why Carrie likes to describe rock climbing as “Yoga on the wall!”

Not a rock climber? That’s okay! Our experienced rock climbing guide will pick climbing routes accessible for all levels, even beginners! Still not interested in climbing? No worries!! When you come on a retreat with us, there is never any pressure to do anything you don’t want to do. Even though we always encourage our guests to step outside of their comfort zones to try new things, we understand that rock climbing and other activities aren’t always for everyone!! For guests that don’t participate in rock climbing, they are still welcome to hangout in a beautiful desert environment and support those climbing, or you could walk some of the hiking trails in the park, or stay back at the camp and relax! There are always alternative options for every activity we offer.

Another unique and funky experience we incorporate into this retreat is taking a trip to The Integratron, about 20 minutes away from our campsite. What is The Integratron you might ask? Built in 1957 by George Van Tassel, The Integratron is a one-of-a-kind domed structure that was conceived and built after Van Tassel reportedly received instructions from extraterrestrials on how to build this dome for rejuvenation and time travel purposes. Since that time, The Integratron has become famous, not only for its history, but also for its amazing acoustical properties, which is why we use this location for an otherworldly sound bath experience. Lay back and let the crystal singing bowls transport you to another planet!

What is the food like on this Joshua Tree Desert Yoga Campout?

Chef Zach will be serving up delicious, plant-based, organic meals to nourish us throughout the retreat. Coffee and a selection of teas will be available every morning for you to enjoy while taking in the amazing Joshua Tree sunrises. Zach serves a selection of international cuisine, vegan classics, and many unique creations of his own. If you are gluten-free, no problem! Talk to us in advance about any other dietary restrictions to see if Zach can cater to them.

What is the camping like?

We will be camping just outside of the park on a property where there is plenty of space for tents and a few flat-ish car camping spots. The location provides picnic tables, a porta potty, and a central area for our kitchen and fire pit. We love this location because it allows us to spread out and not feel crowded, and our tents are just below a rocky ridge where we will do our morning meditation as the sun comes up. The unique desert terrain offers a spectacular environment to connect with oneself and commune with nature.

Just like all of our retreats, this is a substance-free, recovery-supportive environment! Although you don’t have to be sober in real life to come on our retreat, you do need to be willing to take a break from any recreational substances throughout the entire retreat experience. We believe everyone is recovering from something, whether it’s addiction, stress, trauma, eating disorders, or just the disconnection of life in our busy, high-tech world. Bigger Life Adventures strives to create a safe and open space for vulnerability and openness about each and every healing journey. Our retreats don’t include formal recovery meetings, but our guests are always sharing and learning from each other as we all work to use the tools of yoga and community to become better and live bigger lives.

A supportive, alcohol-free environment for anyone recovering from anything or anyone who is “sober-curious”. We’re all in this together and here to lift each other up!

“Ahhhhh getting out of my comfort zone! Consistently challenging myself with new ideas, interactions, people, and places. Mindful living with like-minded individuals and integration of the medicine that is all around us. Yet being in immersive community with all flavors of the human experience with intentional gathering. Leaning into the herbal alchemy that is mother nature. Gratitude for not only listening but surrendering to my heart tugs. That is all for now.”
-Sydney, 2023
